Eye Problems In Our Pets

Our pets suffer many of the same eye conditions that we, including glaucoma, corneal ulceration, cataract, dry eye, retinal degeneration and eye infections such as conjunctivitis. However, in many cases, serious eye problems are not seen or treated in time and the result can be long term damage or visual impairment. What makes eye problems that are difficult is that the severity of symptoms is not always a testament to the severity of the condition. For example, a dog with one eye very red, swollen, may have a harmless infection, while another with a mild strabismus can have a serious eye condition and require immediate treatment. Our pets can not also tell us of any change in vision, eye pain or eye discomfort you may feel. For these reasons it is always better to walk on the side of caution and take your pet to the vet if he shows any symptoms of eye problems.
